What to do with all of those extra leftover layer cake precut fabrics? They are beautiful, but not very big. This page is full of ideas for using up your extra fabric and making fabulous layer cake fabric projects. Use them for small projects or use them together to make wall hangings or even quilts.
What is a layer cake?
A layer cake square is a popular pre-cut fabric pack used in quilting and sewing. The layer cake fabric pack is a stack of fabric squares, each measuring 10 inches by 10 inches.
A layer cake stack usually contains 42 squares from a fabric collection, giving the sewer a coordinated mix of colors and prints.
Why do quilters love layer cakes?
Layer cakes are convenient. There are less cuts you need to do yourself. This minimizes the time when making a quilt.
They are coordinated, with all pieces coming from the same fabric line. The fabrics match up beautifully and are great for those who have trouble picking individual fabrics.
Layer cakes are versatile and can be used for a variety of items like quilts, bags, pillows, and more.
They are also time saving. Get right into sewing!
How are layer cakes used?
They can be cut into smaller squares, triangles, or strips. Combine them with other precuts like charm packs (5”) or jelly rolls (2.5” strips).
The layer cake fabrics are perfect for quick quilt patterns or beginner projects.
