Hat and Scarf Sewing Patterns

Oftentimes when the words scarf and hat are used, most of us tend to think of cooler weather, ski caps, and snow.

This page does contain a few of those, but there are scarves and hats that serve other purposes as well!

Although there are crocheted scarves and knitted scarves on our site, here is the place to find hat sewing patterns as well as scarf sewing patterns. The focus here is on “sewing”.

Hats

One of the most popular patterns is the bucket hat sewing pattern.  These hats are perfect for keeping the sun off the face and neck during the warmer months.

Most other hats only protect the face, but the continuous rim of this hat keeps the ears and neck protected as well.

What fabric is best for a bucket hat?

The best fabrics used to make bucket hats are either quilters’ cotton or cotton canvas. The cotton canvas keeps the bucket hat heavier, and the quilters’ cotton still protects with a bucket hat that is flimsier and flows more.

How much fabric do I need to make a bucket hat?

Scraps left over from another project is a great way to find fabric to make a bucket hat. It is necessary to have 14” of fabric that is 36” wide for the hat and a second piece that is also the same size to be used for the lining of the bucket hat.

Looking for cold-weather hat sewing patterns?  There are several links to warm fleece hat patterns below. The Easy Fleece Hat from Little House Living might be the simplest hat pattern of all.

Be sure to check it out!  You could whip up a bunch to have on hand so everyone in the family is outfitted.

Other hats, such as the cute baby hat, the fleece cuffed beanie, the beret, and the fleece ski cap can be found by scrolling down the list of free hat sewing patterns.

The scrub cap patterns would make a wonderful community service project to keep the front line medical workers safe!

For anyone who wants to knit hats or try some crocheted hats, we have resources for those too!

Scarves

Not to be outdone, the scarf sewing patterns are plentiful and have real character.

Some of the scarf patterns are lightweight for warmer days or to use as an accessory for a pretty outfit. The sweet Floral and Lace Infinity Scarf from Flamingo Toes would be perfect to add a bit of fancy.

The cool weather scarf sewing patterns include cozy blanket scarves, warm cowl scarves, and soft fleece and flannel scarves.  Just take a peek at these and many more scarf patterns.

No matter what weather is in store, there are scrumptious scarf patterns and hat sewing patterns below that will keep you, your friends, and family ready!
