DIY Keychain Lip Balm Holder
Do you have clapped lips? I do. Multiple times a day I use lip balm. And keeping it handy while on the go was a problem. The solution was to make some sort of lip balm holder.
So today, I would like to share with you a free DIY chapstick holder keychain pattern. This lip balm holder pattern is super cute, super easy, and super quick to make.
My lip balm cozies pattern fits standard size lip balms, chapsticks, and some lipsticks. It is ideal to attach to your purse, tote bag, backpack, belt loop, diaper bag, gym bag, or wherever you need it most. So make more than one. Attach them everywhere.

How to sew a chapstick holder
Skill Level: Beginners
Time: Less than a half-hour
what you will need for the DIY fabric chapstick holder:

- Scraps of quilting cotton
- Lightweight or featherweight fusible interfacing
- 3/8" Ribbon
- Keyring/Zipper Pull
- Standard sewing supplies
- Regular size lip balm
INSTRUCTIONS to make a chapstick holder
STEP1: CUTTING FABRIC & RIBBON
Start by cutting the fabric. You will need to cut two pieces of cotton fabric and one piece of interfacing 2" wide and 7" long.
Cut a piece of ribbon 3" long.
STEP 2: INTERFACE FUSING
Following the manufacturer’s instruction, iron the interfacing to the wrong side of one of the fabric strips.![Chap Stick Holder Keychain - Fuse Interfacing]()
STEP 3: RIBBON PLACEMENT
Fold the ribbon in half and center it on the short side of the fused fabric piece. Pin. ![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Add Ribbon]()
STEP 4: SEWING MAIN PIECE
Turn under 1/4 inch and iron the bottom edge of the two fabric pieces.![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Crease Edge]()
Place the two pieces of fabric with right sides together and pin around the whole thing.![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Pin Together]()
Stitch along three sides of the chapstick holder using a ¼” seam allowance, leaving the bottom end unsewn. Sew up one long side, across the short side containing the ribbon and down the other long side. ![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Sew Around]()
Clip the corners and turn right side out. Push out corners and press flat.![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Turn]()
Stitch bottom closed using a 1/8” seam.
STEP 5: CREATING POCKET
Next, fold the bottom up 2 ½ inches toward the top and pin.![Chap Stick Holder Tutorial - Turn Edge]()

STEP 6: FINISHING
Now it is time to attach the keyring. Slip the keyring into the ribbon loop.
All done! Super Easy! It's so easy that you should probably make multiples!!!
