DIY COLLECTION OF HAIR ACCESSORIES FOR FASHION
Scrunchies
The name scrunchie evolved because of the way the fabric scrunches up.
The 80’s and 90’s were exploding with hair scrunchies and then they disappeared for over a decade and regained popularity in the mid-2010’s.
Today scrunchies are back in various sizes, colors, and fabrics. The oversized scrunchies seem to be the most popular.
Not only are they worn in ponytails and buns, but they are also worn on wrists. Make some more before they disappear for another 10 years!
Some of the free patterns below show how to make scrunchies with tails or bows. Don’t miss this cute touch to the popular scrunchie!
If a secret place to hide some money and necessities arises, there are patterns to make scrunchies with zippered compartments. How cool is that?!
Bows
Bows have been popular for centuries, and they still are today. Take a look at the free patterns for various types of sewn hair bows for the little girl in your life.
Some of the patterns show how to make bows in various sizes, which is wonderful for small pigtails up to big bows to hold hair back.
The patterns for bows attached to ponytail holders make for an easy and secure placement as well. Even the younger crowd can put these in their hair.
Headbands
Look no further for patterns for the twisted turban headband! They add a bit more style than a regular sewn headband, and there are many patterns here as well.
The padded headband and the braided velvet headband make the wearer look like a princess! True royalty with simple headbands that take no time to make.
Headbands range in size from narrow to quite wide, each giving a very distinct look. The wider headband looks best on women rather than young girls, and it dresses up an outfit so easily.
Don’t miss the tie dyed headband tutorial. Check out our page on tie dying if you need some inspiration!
Hair clips and Bobby pins
Embellished clips and bobby pins make for cute hair accessories as well. There are tutorials on making fabric-covered buttons to attach to the end of bobby pins with extensions specifically for embellishments.
Fabric yo-yos added to clips along with vintage buttons make for a classic look. We show you how to make yo-yos with the Clover yo-yo maker here.
There are several tutorials showing how to make a fabric bun maker with a bow. It is reminiscent of the bun maker my mom used to put my hair in a bun when I was a little girl.
These bun makers are easy to use and perfect for the ballerina in your life. They make buns an easy updo!
