How to Make a Simple Fabric Wine Bottle Gift Bag

STEP 1: Cutting Fabric and Ribbon

Cut a piece of fabric 12" x 16". Cut a piece of ribbon 26" long.Wine Bottle Gift Bag

STEP 2: Hemming the Top of the Bag

On one of the 12" sides of the fabric, fold under the raw edge 1/4" and press flat. Fold under again 1/2" and press. Pin in place. Sew using a straight stitch close to the inside folded edge to hold the hem in place. This is the top of the bag.Wine Bottle Gift Bag

STEP 3: Attaching ribbon

Fold the ribbon in half, and pin the folded edge 3 1/2" from the top of the bag. Align the folded edge of the ribbon with the edge of one of the long sides. To prevent the ribbon from getting caught while sewing, fold the ribbon into an L shape and pin the ends to the fabric.Wine Bottle Gift Bag

STEP 4: Sew the Long Side and Bottom

Fold the fabric, with right sides together, the long way and then sew along the long side and the bottom using a 1/4" seam allowance, back tacking at the beginning and end.Wine Bottle Gift Bag

STEP 5: Square Bottom

Fold the fabric putting the seam in the middle of the back of the bag. Fold the bag in half, matching the back seam with the bottom seam and folding the bottom in to form two triangle pieces. Measure 1" from the point of each triangle and mark a horizontal line. Sew along the marked line. Clip the excess fabric about 1/4" from stitching.Wine Bottle Gift Bag
