  • Paint Brush
  • Black and White Construction Paper
  • Scissor

  • Exacto Knife, Razor Black or Knife (not at Dollar Tree)

Shy Foam Pumpkin SuppliesDon't let this long list of supplies discourage you.  The craft is really, really simple to make.

INSTRUCTIONS for making the pumpkin craft :

STEP 1: Remove the stem from pumpkin

In previous years, the pumpkin stem on these Dollar Tree pumpkins was easy to remove by simply pulling it off.

This year, the foam pumpkins at my Dollar Tree are constructed differently.  The top half of the pumpkin and the stem are all one piece.

Shy Pumpkin Craft Remove StemSo depending on the pumpkin purchased, you will either pull the stem off

OR

cut the stem from the pumpkin with an Exacto knife, razor blade or another cutting tool.

STEP 2: painting stem and gift box top

Once the stem is removed, set the pumpkin aside.  Get the black paint and paintbrush to paint the pumpkin stem and gift box top.

Place something on the table to protect it.  I always have a supply of shipping paper on hand just for this purpose.

Squeeze some black paint onto a paper plate.

So your hands don't get messed up while painting the stem, insert a toothpick into the bottom. And then paint the stem black.  After it's painted, place it in a small cup (like a candle holder) to dry.

Next, remove the top from the gift box (use the bottom of the gift box for another purpose) and paint it black.

Let the paint dry.  If the paint has not covered the pieces completely,  apply a second coat to them.

STEP 3: MAKE PUMPKIN EYES

When the paint is drying make the eyes for the pumpkins. You'll need the construction paper, a nickel, a dime, a pencil and scissors.

Shy Pumpkin Cut Eyes from paperWith the nickel trace two circles on the white construction paper and cut them out.

Use the dime to make two circles from the black construction paper.

Glue the black circle onto the white circle.  The eyes are complete.

STEP 4:  assembling THE SHY PUMPKIN

NOTE: When putting the shy pumpkin together, I used a hot glue gun.  After finishing some of the glue showed.  So I recommend using tacky craft glue instead.

Shy Pumpkin Ready to assemble pumpkinGet ready to make the shy pumpkin craft with the black bowl, orange foam pumpkin, black pumpkin stem, black gift box top, eyes and glue.

How to assemble the shy pumpkin:

  1. Glue the eyes to the orange foam pumpkin
  2. Take the black bowl and apply glue around the rim
  3. Place the pumpkin in the bowl
  4. Apply glue to the black gift box top and place it on the top of the pumpkin
  5. Put some glue on the pumpkin stem and put it in the middle of the box lid

Shy Pumpkin FinishedEasy-Peasy! The shy pumpkin craft is finished.
