There are so many supplies and gadgets available for crafters. One of the most exciting and versatile is the Cricut machine. These machines have come a long way since I had one in 2005 which I used for scrapbooking.
What is a cricut maker?
Today’s Cricut machines can do so much now! On this page is a huge collection of Cricut maker tutorials and articles showing how to use a Cricut maker.
The Cricut machines are smart cutting machines which use an app to cut a plethora of designs on paper, vinyl, wood, fabric, stickers and more. It enables crafters to design and personalize almost anything!
Many crafters have purchased Cricut cutting machines to start a business designing and selling their own personalized products.
How Cricut Makers Work
A Cricut cutting machine is like the basic printer in a home. However, it doesn't print the design on a sheet of paper like a printer. The Cricut machine uses a precise blade to cut the design out of a sheet of material.
It is necessary to use Cricut's design software, Design Space, on a computer where the image is created. The design is then sent to the Cricut cutting machine from the computer using a USB or via bluetooth. Once the Cricut Maker receives the design from the computer, it cuts it out with its sharp precision blade.
Design space is free to download and use. It can be explored even before purchasing a Cricut machine. There are many free projects available through Cricut Design space! Cricut does have a subscription plan Cricut Access (#ad) that gets you additional projects, fonts, images and discounts.
What can I make with a Cricut Maker?
The Cricut Maker is the group of cutting machines that are at the top of Cricut’s line. The Cricut Maker can cut hundreds of materials, including fabric, plastic, wood, leathers, felt, acrylic material, plus much more.
Some projects that you can make with the Cricut Maker:
- Baby items, perfect for shower gifts
- Homemade greeting Cards
- Leather items like jewelry (think earrings, bracelets, necklaces)
- Stencils to use in hundreds of crafts
