INSTRUCTIONS to make a spa wrap for an 18" doll

STEP 1: Press the terry cloth material

The first step is to lay the terry cloth with the wrong side facing up on the ironing board.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.2

Turn the edge of one of the long sides under 1/4" and press the material well with an iron. Do the same for the other long side of the terry cloth fabric.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.3

step 2: sew the pressed edges

Next, take the material to the sewing machine. Set the sewing machine to a zig-zag stitch. Using the zig-zag stitch, sew the folded edges flat. Be sure to backtack at the beginning and end of the stitching.

Ensure that one edge of the zig-zag stitch goes over the raw edge of the fabric and that the other edge of the stitch tacks down through both layers of fabric.

Do this for both of the folded sides. This will ensure that the seams lay flat. Be sure to clip excess threads.

step 3: press and sew the short sides of the terry cloth

The next step is to do the same for the short sides of the fabric. Turn the edges under 1/4" and press with the hot iron. Then, take the material to the sewing machine and, using the zig-zag stitch, stitch down the folded edges. Doll Spa Towel_1.1.4Be sure to backtack at the beginning and end of the stitching and clip any extra threads. There should be nice straight seams that lay flat.

Step 4: Embellish the spa towel wrap with trim

Using lace, ric rac, or any other trim, sew it along the right side of one of the short edges. This will be the front of the spa wrap for the 18" doll. Doll Spa Towel_1.1.5Embellishments are optional, but they do make the wrap look extra special.

step 5: Attach Velcro to the short sides

The spa towel wrap will be held in place with sewn-on Velcro. Lay the wrap on the work surface, right side up.

On the short end without the trim, pin the 3" Velcro strip in place at the edge on the right side of the fabric. Turn the spa wrap so the wrong side is facing up.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.6

Pin the other strip of Velcro to the end with trim, but on the wrong side of the fabric.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.7

Take the spa wrap to the sewing machine. For best results, use a straight stitch to sew around the edges of the Velcro to secure it in place on both ends.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.8

In order to make right turns at the corners, use the needle-down feature if the sewing machine has it. If not, simply turn the wheel until the needle is in the down position before turning the corners.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.9

Be sure to backtack at the beginning and end of the stitching and clip any threads.

The spa towel wrap is complete! Lay it on the table with the wrong side up with the trimmed end to the left. Lay the 18" doll on top of the towel. Wrap the spa towel around the doll and secure it with Velcro strips.Doll Spa Towel_1.1.10
