HOW TO MAKE THE PUMPKIN SLIME JAR
JAR SUPPLIES:
- Small Jar - baby food, mustard, relish or purchased jar
- Orange Paint
- Brown Paint
- Paint Brush or Foam Brush
- Black Adhesive Back Felt
- Wood Spool
- Fake Pumpkin Leaf
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissor
INSTRUCTIONS :
STEP 1: GATHER SUPPLIES
To begin this project, gather all the supplies needed to make the jar. A list of the supplies is above. If upcycling a jar, remove the label. If you don't have any jars to recycle, purchase small jars with lids from your favorite craft store, dollar store or online at Amazon. Find some links later in this post for purchasing supplies.
And don't forget to wash the jars before you use them.
STEP 2: PAINTING LID AND STEM
The lid of the jar and wood spool stem will need to be painted. To paint the lid, squeeze some orange paint onto a paper plate. With a paintbrush or foam sponge, paint the lid. Allow the paint to dry. If the first coat of paint did not completely cover the lid, repaint it.
The wood spool will be used as the stem of the pumpkin. An easy way to paint the spool, so your hands do not get paint on them, is to place the spool on the tip of a pencil. Then, paint the spool with brown paint.
STEP 3: JACK-O-LANTERN FACE
While the lid and spool are drying, you can make the jack-o-lantern face for the jar. From the black adhesive-backed felt, cut out your face design. For our jack-o-lantern, we cut three triangles. Two triangles for the eyes and one for the nose. We, then, cut out a mouth. Be creative.
After cutting out the pieces with a scissor, remove the paper backing and attach them to the jar.
STEP 4: GLUING STEM AND LEAF
After the lid and spool are completely dry, use your hot glue gun to attach the pumpkin leaf and spool stem to the top of the lid. The jack-o-lantern jar is complete.
STEP 5: MAKE SLIME
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Slime Glue
- Water
- Baking Soda
- Food Coloring - Red and Orange
- Contact Lens Solution that contains boric acid and sodium borate
- Bowl
- Measuring Cup
- Measuring Spoons
- Mixing Spoon
Time to make the orange slime. We have a tutorial on making a no-fail slime. To make our no-fail slime recipe follow our step-by-step tutorial and watch our instructional video.
To make the slime orange, all you need to do is use equal parts of red and yellow food color. Start with 2 drops of each color. If it is not orangey enough, add more.
STEP 6: PLAYING AND STORING
Kids enjoy playing with slime. It is cool to touch, stretchy, sticky, squishy and just the right amount of mess. So after making the slime, let the kiddos play with it.
After playtime is done, store the slime in the jack-o-lantern jar and use it as a Halloween decoration in your kid's bedroom or somewhere else in the house.
If you are planning a Halloween party for kids this year, these jack-o-lantern slime pumpkins are the perfect party activity and favor they can take home with them.
We hope you enjoyed this project. Happy Halloween!
