SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Sock with ribbing
- Shoelace 24" or longer
- Straw
- Scissor
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: PREPARING SOCK
With a scissor, make a small snip in the sock ribbing on each side of the sock.
STEP 2: CUTTING STRAW AND SHOELACES
* Cut a 1 ½” piece from the straw.
* Cut the shoelace so you have two pieces about 12” long.
STEP 3: THREAD SHOELACE THROUGH RIBBING
* Slide the shoelace into the straw piece and then folding over the outside a few inches.
* Insert the straw into the opening on one side of the sock. Thread it through the ribbing channel on the first side. Form a loop and continue threading the shoelace through the second opening and ribbing channel on the other side.
* Tie the ends of the shoelace together with a knot.
* Repeat this threading process with the other shoelace but start on the opposite side. Thread, loop and tie knot.
STEP 4: FINAL STEP
* Pull the two loops to tighten the pouch.
The pouch is finished! These sock pouches have many uses. Make them for kids to store their treasures, use them in your pocketbook to store money, candy, gum, makeup and/or cell phone or make as party favors filled with candy and trinkets.
Sock drawstring pouches are an excellent group kids project activity.
