WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 20" spool knitted cord
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Embellishments

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1: MAKING SPOOL KNITTED CORD

Make a 20" long spool knitted cord. Leave long tails of yarn attached to the cord. These tails will be used to sew the flower petals together.  If you don't have long tails, you can also use another section of yarn.

STEP 2: DIVIDE THE CORD INTO SECTIONS

Since the flower will have five petals, divide the cord into 5 equal sections using a straight pin or safety pin to mark the sections.Spool Knitted Flower

STEP 3: SEWING LOOPS TOGETHER TO MAKE PETALS

Thread a tapestry needle on one of the yarn tails.

Insert the needle into the cording at the first pin closest to the tail. Pull the yarn through forming the first petal. Make a few more stitches to keep the petal secure.Spool Knitted Flower
Pinch the cording at the next pin.Spool Knitted Flower

Insert the needle through both layers of the pinched cord, pull the yarn through making a loop and make a few stitches to hold the loop securely in place.Spool Knitted Flower
Continue forming petals by pinching cord at each pin and making a few stitches through both pinched layers.

Fasten the tails by tying a knot in the back.Spool Knitted Flower
Embellish as you wish. Some embellishment ideas are buttons, small spool knit coil, pompoms, etc. Here are a few examples:Spool Knitted Flower

The spool knitted flowers above are embellished with a small loose pom and a spool knitted cord wrapped in a spiral.
