How to finish the back of a plastic canvas bookmark

Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 8 Three Finished

WHAT YOU NEED:

Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 1 Supplies

INSTRUCTIONS for finishing the bookmark:

STEP 1: Prepare felt piece

To begin, gather all your materials.  Then, measure the back of the finished plastic canvas bookmark using a ruler for precise dimensions.Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 2 Cut Felt Cut a piece of felt to match that measurement.

STEP 2: Apply glue to the bookmark back

Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 3 Glue Now, take your fabric glue and apply a bead of glue around the outer edge of the bookmark.   Add one diagonal line of glue from one corner to the opposite corner; then another diagonal line again from the other corner to corner, forming an "X" on the back.

Or you can create a squiggly line down the center.

Don't spread the glue!Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 4 Apply Glue

Note: From my experience, spreading the glue evenly can lead to the felt not adhering properly.  So, DON'T spread it!.

The bead method of applying the glue will provide a stronger bond and help the felt stay securely in place.

If you prefer, you can use hot glue instead.

STEP 3: Attach felt to the bookmark

Carefully press the felt onto the glued area, aligning it with the edges of the bookmark.  Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 5 Apply FeltSmooth out any wrinkles as you press down on the felt, ensuring the felt lies flat and sticks well.

For best results, place a couple of heavy books on top while the glue dries to help prevent wrinkling and lifting.Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 6 Weight down

STEP 4: Final Step

Once the glue has dried completely, inspect the edges of the felt to make sure it's securely attached.  Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 7 Finished If you find any spots where it has lifted, simply add a small dab of glue and press down firmly.

When the bookmark is fully dry and the felt backing is secure, it’s ready to use or gift! Enjoy your beautifully finished bookmark!Plastic Canvas Bookmark Finish 9 Show BookmarksIf you would like to make the ombre bookmark you see above, head over to our Ombre Bookmark Tutorial page.
