Loop Yarn Binding Off Tutorial

Anyone can knit!

A new type of yarn has appeared in stores, loop yarn. The yarn features unique preformed loops which means when working with this yarn no knitting needles are required. All you need are your hands.

This tutorial will explain how to bind off which is also known as casting off.  Binding off is used at the end of the project to finish off the loops remaining in the last row.  In the bind off, the loops are looped together to obtain a finished look.  Loop Yarn Binding Off - Facebook ad

Right now, there are a least four different brands of loop yarn - Bernat Alize Blanket EZ yarn, Big Twist Loopity Loop Yarn, Red Hearts Loop-It Yarn and Lion Brand Off The Hook Yarn. Links to purchase yarn are at the end of this article.

This loopy, puffy yarn makes it extremely fun, quick and easy to knit blankets, scarfs, pillows, cowls and more. It makes knitting easy and fun for children, pre-teens, teenagers and even adults.

HOW TO BIND OFF

Binding off with loop yarn can be done in either direction - right to left or left to right. However, you always start to bind off in the same direction as your last row (the end without the tail of loops).

STEP 1:

Slip the second loop into the first loop and pull it through. Loop Yarn Binding Off - Slip loop through first loop

After the first bind off, it should look like this: Loop Yarn Binding Off - first stitch

STEP 2:

Slip the next loop (3rd loop) into the loop previously pulled through (2nd loop).

Continue across the row slipping the next loop into the previous loop. Loop Yarn Binding Off - continue

After inserting the last loop, carefully cut off the tail of loops.

The binding off should look similar to the following example: Loop Yarn Binding Off - Bind off example

STEP 3:

With the last loop, carefully cut the loop open. You now have a yarn tail.

STEP 4:

Thread the tail on a tapestry needle and weave the tail through the thickest part of the stitches.

The bind/binding off is completed.
