German Twisted Cast On

The German Twisted Cast On is a variation of a long tail cast on which produces a little looser and neat edging. This cast on is ideal when making socks, mittens or anything which needs a little stretch.

PHOTO TUTORIAL ON HOW TO DO THE GERMAN TWISTED CAST ON

STEP 1: Make a slip knot and place it on the knitting needle.

STEP 2: Place your thumb and forefinger between the two stands of yarn making sure that the tail is draped over your thumb. Tilt your hand back while grabbing the working yarn and tail with the other fingers. It will look like a slingshot.

STEP 3: Take knitting needle tip under both yarns on your thumb.

STEP 4: Bring the needle down though the loop on your thumb

STEP 5: Take the tip of the needle over top and under of the yarn on your index finger.

STEP 6: You will notice a triangle is formed, pull the strand of yarn though the triangle.

STEP 7: Drop loop off your thumb and tighten.

STEP 8: Repeat steps 2 to 7 until you have the desired number of cast on stitches you need.
