How to knit an I-Cord

Learn how to knit I-cord. I-cord is a knitted cord or tube that is really quick and easy to make. It can be used for all sorts of things, from the straps for bags to decorative edgings to shoe laces to much more.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE I-CORD:

* Yarn
* Double Pointed Knitting Needles

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE I-CORD

STEP 1:
With double-pointed needles, cast on number of stitches desired or called for by a pattern – normally between three and five stitches.

STEP 2:
Knit the first row. Do not turn work.

STEP 3:
Slide the stitches to the opposite end of the needle. The working yarn is now on the left.

STEP 4:
Bring the working yarn tightly across the back of your work and knit the next row. As you pull the yarn the back will close up forming the cord.

STEP 5:
After knitting a row, pull the yarn snug.

STEP 6:
Repeat steps 3 to 5 until desired length is achieved.

STEP 7:
Bind off normally.

* Use as a belt
* Make into a headband
* Sew it into shapes
* Embellishments
* Ties
* Edging
* Jewelry
* Closures for sweaters or bags
* Shoe laces
