Some sewing patterns contain different sizes on the same pattern piece. One way to reuse and preserve the pattern would be to trace it.
But there is another method I use, especially when sewing children's clothes.

As the child grows and you want to make a larger size with the same pattern, try this quick and easy method.
Place pattern pieces on fabric and cut along lines for desired size.
Save the cut-off section of the pattern.
When you want to make the pattern in the larger size, just tape the pieces back together.
