Teaching Kids to Sew
If you already love to sew and want to get kids into beginner sewing, the projects on this page will interest them as well.
Everyone learns to sew by starting with simple beginner sewing projects. I learned to sew in 4-H starting at 8 years old. I remember joining 4-H and my Mom (who you also know from the videos), told me that I had to take a sewing project for two years.
If I didn't like it after the two years, I could quit. The first year I made a tote bag. The second year my project was a skirt with a zipper.
My mom was smart! After two successful sewing projects I was hooked!
I participated in the 4-H Fashion Revue every year through my graduation from high school. In those years, I progressed through sewing; making dresses, prom gowns, and even a wool suit.
I have now taught my daughter to sew through 4-H; she has made dresses, skirts, jackets, and tops. Like me, she also participated in the 4-H Fashion Revue. Learn more about 4-H by clicking the link and looking for 4-H clubs in your area. 4-H is not just animal projects!
