SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
Assorted Halloween fabric or assorted scrap fabric
Rotary cutter with a pinking blade
Twine or cord
STEP 1: Cutting the Fabric
You will be cutting the fabric into 1” x 6” strips. An easy way to do this is to use a rotary cutter with a pinking blade. The pinking blade will help prevent the fabric from fraying and give it a decorative edge. NOTE: If kids will be helping with this project, you may want to cut the strips 7" long instead of 6". It will be easier for them to tie the overhand knot.
Cut the fabric into 6” strips from selvage to selvage.
Stack a few strips on top of each other and sub-cut into 1” strips.
STEP 2: Fabric Strip Piles
On a work surface, place the fabric strips in piles.
STEP 3: Tie Loop
Tie a loop at the end of the twine. This loop will be used to hang the garland.
STEP 4: Secure to Work Surface
With scotch tape or a binder clip, attach the twine to the work surface. This will make it easier to tie the fabric to the twine.
STEP 5: Tying Fabric to Twine
Tie the fabric strips to the twine in a set pattern or randomly using an overhand knot. Continue adding strips until the garland is the desired length or all the strips have been used.
Cross the ends of the fabric strip over each other.
Insert one end through the loop to make an overhand knot.
Pull two ends tightly over the twine.
As you add strips, push them together.
STEP 6: Final Step
Tie a loop at the other end of the twine and hang.
It’s that simple and ready to place around your home.
