SUPPLIES NEEDED for the no-sew fabric wreath

  • Wire wreath frame
  • 2 to 2 1/2 yards assorted fabric or assorted scrap fabric (for medium size wreath)
  • Rotary cutter with a pinking blade
  • Mat
  • Acrylic Ruler
  • Scissor
  • Ribbon for hanging
  • Embellishments (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS for the rag edge fabric wreath

STEP 1: Cutting the Fabric

You will be cutting the fabric into 1” x 6” strips. An easy way to do this is to use a rotary cutter with a pinking blade. The pinking blade will help prevent the fabric from fraying and give it a decorative edge.  If you need a pinking blade for your rotary cutter, please look below for links to where to purchase one. Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Pinking Blade Cutter

A normal straight rotary cutter blade can be used but expect the fabric to fray more over time.  If you prefer a more rag look, then use a straight rotary cutter blade.

Lay the fabric onto a cutting mat and line it up with the lines on the mat to be sure it's straight.  Cut the fabric into 6” strips from selvage to selvage.

Stack a few (2 or 3) of the 6" strips on top of each other and sub-cut into 1” strips. Stacking the fabric will make the cutting go much faster.  Most rotary cutters can cut 6 layers at once.Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Fabric Strips

STEP 2: Fabric Strip Piles

On a work surface, place the fabric strips in piles.  Have one pile for each fabric. Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Strips in Piles

STEP 3: Tying the Fabric Strips to Wire Wreath

Working one section of the wire wreath at a time, place the fabric strip under a wire.Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Tying Strips

Tie the fabric strip to the wire with an overhand knot.Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Overhand Knot

Continue adding fabric strips alternating between wires and fabric colors until one section is filled. As you tie, push the strips very close together. This will give the wreath a fuller appearance.

After completing one section, continue section by section until the entire wire wreath is filled with fabric strips.

This step can be done while watching television or while chatting with friends.  It is a repetitive task so it can go faster if you are doing something else too!

STEP 4: Add a Hanging Ribbon

Cut a 6" - 8" piece of ribbon.  Attach a piece of ribbon to the back of the wreath by tying the ends together.  Your wreath is complete and ready to use.Fall No Sew Fabric Wreath - Attach Ribbon for hanging

STEP 5: Embellish the fabric wreath

Since the fabric wreath is so colorful, it can be used as-is. However, if you wish, add embellishments to the wreath by using a bow or store-bought Halloween or fall decorations.
