Are your kids into American Girl dolls? Do they like Harry Potter?
This video explains how to knit a simple Harry Potter scarf for an American Girl Doll or 18" doll. You can knit the scarf in any of the Hogwart's house colors.

Since only basic knitting skills are need - how to cast on, the knit stitch and how to bind off - this is an excellent project for teaching a child how to knit.
To make a knit scarf you need: Yarn, size 10 knitting needles, tapestry needle and crochet hook.
Hogwart House Colors: Hufflepuff - yellow and black, Gryffindor - red and gold, Ravenclaw - blue and grey and Slytherin - green and grey.
FREE DOLL SCARF PATTERN (Choose yarn in house colors):
Cast on 8 stitches
Knit 10 rows in first color
Change to second color
Knit 10 rows in second color
Change to first color
Knit 10 rows
Repeat until you have 13 strips
Weave yarn tails into scarf
These doll scarves make nice favors to give to children if you host a Harry Potter themed birthday party.
